Scrambling is true mountaineering, the best way to the top is never the easiest one.

Somewhere between a very steep walk and an easy climb sits Scrambling, it's a great way to head off in to the mountains for an adventure on rock, but there are some skills and knowledge you need to do it safely.

I run courses in South Wales that look at the skills and techniques required to safely scramble in the mountainous areas of the UK like Snowdonia and The Lake District. We may be using small crags to train on, but the skills are easily transferred to the mountains and it allows us to cover a lot of learning without the big walk in. Courses will often include:

  • Route selection and route finding
  • Movement techniques
  • Rope work
  • Protection
  • Belaying
  • Safe retreat.

See my blog on what to take scrambling.
