If you're looking to use the tidal crags of South Wales with groups then you'll find that they're not in the scope of the climbing awards from Mountain Training, but don't worry, there are other routes to show that you have the skills and knowledge to run a safe session there.
A Tidal Validation is a combined training and assessment course that looks at the agreed syllabus for working on tidal crags in South Wales and issues those that have been deemed competent a certificate "validating" their skills and knowledge.
There are two levels of Validation, each taking a day to undertake:
Your classic Three Cliffs crag where you can just walk in when the 'tidal door' opens and leave before it shuts. We'll cover everything you need to know about how the sea and crag interact and how to plan a safe and enjoyable session.
Great for using crags when the tides still in and the sea is calm, but when there is no access from below the only escape is up, this requires some extra skills including hoisting.
